'Ways forward for classroom support staff' - an Inset programme for practitioners

"The findings from this research could have enormous implications on how we use support staff to ensure progress for our children. Every headteacher should have the opportunity to explore this piece of research. My SENCo and I found the day invaluable".

Primary Headteacher, Hampshire

"Your presentation was superb and has given our schools a great deal of food for thought. The session will provide us with many reference points for our work with schools...your contribution to that is much appreciated".

Head of SEN Support Services, Coventry City Council

The DISS project has made a significant contribution to our understanding of the role and impact of TAs, cover supervisors and other classroom support staff in UK schools. Based on their work on the DISS project, the experienced School Support Staff.net team have developed an Inset programme to help schools and local authorites develop ways forward for the more effective deployment of classroom support staff.

The programme uses research and findings from the authoritative DISS project as a springboard for enabling practitioners to review existing practice and develop school-based strategies to effect change. We encourage participants to engage with the DISS findings and to draw on their own practice and experience in a collaborative exploration of how classroom support staff can be better deployed in order to support pupils' learning and behaviour more effectively.

Depending on your needs, we can provide an on-site, half-day or full-day session for a school, a school cluster or a local authority.

Plus, we can tailor the programme to suit different audiences, for example:

Primary schools practitioners

Secondary school practitioners

Headteachers and school leaders

SEN co-ordinators

Local authority representatives with responsibility for school workforce or SEN provision
